“He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord.” -Psalm 40:3
Sometimes it’s easier to only write in the midst of the fire, to tell of your goodness Lord when life does not look good. Maybe it’s just me, but for some reason it is harder to write when a song is replacing the tears. And yet here is what the Psalmist speaks to… what will cause people to trust in you? To fear you?
Seeing you lift those who have been in the valley of death out of destruction, seeing you set the faithful ones whose feet had slipped on a rock. Seeing you hear the cry of the ones who groan and answering. Seeing you put a new song in the mouth of the one whose song has been only tears and sadness. Seeing you pour forth praise from the lips of the one who has poured forth rage and anger, question and lament… hoping for the day when the praise would come. Like David who said to himself “Put your hope in God for I will YET praise Him, my Savior and my God.”
And how will they see and know unless they see with their eyes and hear with their ears? So the one who now sings must tell.
Has He put a new song in your heart? So tell the story, sing the song and let all hear what He has done for your soul.
