Mother’s Day 2013 was one of the sweetest memories for me. On a day that could have been really hard, my husband helped to make it extra special. And although tears still flowed freely there was such sweetness in those tears. Celebrating having my little girl with me on mothers day and celebrating getting to be her mom. Thanking the Lord that He chose me to carry this precious child. It was a simple morning, but so so memorable. As I stepped outside our bedroom I was met with this gift on the counter (and a wonderful breakfast made by my man)…
And as I opened the gift, there was a small book inside… written by my husband to Sophia and I. When I realized Kevin had written it it didn’t matter what was in it, just the idea of him writing a little book for us was enough to bring me to tears (which we have recorded, as Kevin was filming me opening it 🙂 ). We read the story together, all 3 of us and just enjoyed these special moments the Lord continues to give us as a family. The looking bear is the Sophie bear we just made at Build-a-Bear. The first time we heard our daughters heartbeat (long before we knew of her condition), the doctor recorded it on a build-a-bear recorder so that we could make a bear with her actual heartbeat in it! (brilliant… all OB doctors should make this part of their standard procedure 🙂 ). This weekend we made our little Sophie bear, and Kevin over the past couple of weeks had been putting together this sweet book for us. Each of the characters in it are animals that we have in our home. I hope you enjoy this sweet book he wrote for Sophia and I!
THE LITTLE LOOKING BEAR
By Kevin Dennis
To my precious daughter Sophia
and my beautiful wife Lindsey
on Mother’s Day.
Once there was a Little Bear
who was looking for something.
“I think I’m missing something,” she said.
“But I don’t know what it is.
I better go look for it.”
So Little Bear went to her friend the Monkey
and asked him, “Mr. Monkey, I think I’m missing something, but I don’t know what it is.
Can you help me look for it?”
“Of course!” said the Monkey.
“But what are you missing?
You’re certainly not missing beauty,
because God made you with incredible beauty.
So what could you be missing?”
So Little Bear and Monkey kept on looking…
They soon found their friend the Buffalo and asked him,
“Mr. Buffalo, Little Bear thinks she is
missing something, but we don’t know what it is.
Can you help us look for it?”
“You betcha!” said Buffalo.
“But what are you missing? You’re certainly not missing a strong heart because I can hear it in your chest.
So what could you be missing?”
So Little Bear, Monkey, and Buffalo kept on looking…
They soon found a Family of Elephants and asked them,
“Elephants, Little Bear thinks she is missing
something, but we don’t know what it is.
Can you help us look for it?”
“We love looking for things!” said the Elephants.
“But what are you missing? You’re certainly not missing wisdom because God already gave you that in your name.
So what could you be missing?”
So Little Bear, Monkey, Buffalo, and the Elephants kept on looking…
They soon found Little Bear’s Teddy and asked him,
“Teddy, Little Bear thinks she is missing something, but we don’t know what it is. Can you help us look for it?”
“Yep!” said Teddy. “But what are you missing?
You’re certainly not missing love
because look around you! All these people love you.
And God especially will always loves you.
So what could you be missing?”
So Little Bear, Monkey, Buffalo, the Elephants, and Teddy kept on looking…
Finally they decided to go ask Little Bear’s Mama and Papa. “Mama and Papa, I think I’m missing something,”
said Little Bear, “but I don’t know what it is.
Can you help me look for it?”
“Of course, we would do anything for you!”
said Mama and Papa. “But what are you missing?
You’re certainly not missing beauty,
or a heart,
or wisdom,
or love.
And you know what? You’re not missing a home either,
because you’re home is with us…and even better,
we will always have a home with Jesus.
So what could you be missing?”
So Little Bear stopped looking
because her friends and family helped her find that she already had everything she was looking for.
