“Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of the mighty, Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in holy array. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, the Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful, the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; Yes, the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, And Siren like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord hews out flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; The Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the deer to calve and strips the forests bare; and in His temple everything says, “Glory!” The Lord sat as King at the flood; YES, THE LORD SITS AS KING FOREVER. The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.” -Psalm 29
Does it seem there are voices that hold more power then they should? The One Voice that should have the power does. Does it seem as if His voice gets lost in the sea of all the others? How could the voice that rides upon the waters, that is powerful, that is majestic ever get lost?
Does it seem that the voices in our country seem to do more damage then good? There is a voice that commends them all, that defies expectation, that steps in when all seems lost. A voice that shakes in the wilderness, the place you wonder if His voice is even there. The barren land that seems to hold no hope, is the very place that you find the voice, the One voice that matters. That One voice that belongs to the King who all will one day cry “Glory!” That voice does not belong to one of our man made fallible kings, not our political leaders, not the men and women we exalt for superficial reasons.
Its the Voice that belongs to God Himself, who is perfect in all His ways. The King who is still Lord of the flood, Lord of the mighty waters. The King who promises strength to His people. The King who promises peace. The kind we all want. The kind broken men promise but cannot fulfill. There is One King, One Lord, One Voice who has promised peace. Who came as the Prince of Peace and who is coming again to make all things right. He has come and He is coming again to bring justice and true reconciliation. It is the Voice of the author of all creation, God of the earth, God of this world. “And in His temple everything says, “Glory!”
And on that day none of us will question why we rise to give honor and glory to this man because we will know He is the one, the only ONE who was and is now and forever worthy of that kind of honor and glory.
Lord, this week especially there will be so many voices, so many opinions, so many thoughts flooding our minds and hearts. Let us be quick to listen to your voice before we add our voice to the sea. And let us remember that Your voice is upon the great waters, that Your voice stands alone in power and might and that You are the One who can bring the hope and change we are truly longing for in our country.
