I think the theme for Kevin and I lately has been “overwhelmed”. Not in the overwhelmed with sadness sense, but overwhelmed with God’s goodness to us through people. We changed our weekly baby bump fun picture to a weekly celebration of Sophia’s life as we discovered our time with her may be short. It started with a simple “2o week celebrating Easter pic”, to each week God has surprised us with new and fun ways to celebrate Sophia’s life through the body of Christ around us. For 21 weeks, several couples from church put together a “21 bday party full of root beer items”, at 22 weeks I made an ice cream cake for her big name reveal and another friend brought over an entire box full of tea party accessories for us to celebrate with Sophia and then Kevin’s best friend Craig and family dressed up in hipster clothes in honor of 22 weeks and Taylor Swift’s song “22”
People have asked “How do you decide how you’ll celebrate each week?” and the honest answer is, we don’t. We just celebrate with whatever we have and often plan on quite a simple celebration. Yet the Lord has surprised us by using people around us to help us celebrate in such sweet and fun ways that we never would have come up with on our own. We are moved to tears by the generosity of those who have taken the time to love us and love Sophie with us. What an amazing thing as parents to know that your child is deeply loved not just by you but by so many around you… and she’s not even born yet! It is a constant reminder of God’s great love and abundant goodness to us. Experiencing the body of Christ in this season has made it incredibly hard to doubt God’s goodness to us in this story that is being written for Sophie. And what a sweet place to be in with the Lord, where in a challenging season He is making it so easy to believe and rest on His GOODNESS and LOVE.
So… “STAR” week?
2 amazing women, Crista and Moe, who I discipled when I was on staff with Cru at Miami University (in Ohio) sent us a package to celebrate Sophia’s 23rd week. I’ll let there note to us describe their gift…
“This week is STAR week! Take Sophia Kyla to the beach where you were engaged (or any open space outside) on a clear night and point out the constellations with the included map. We have also included a “Magic Carpet” you can sit on as you look up at the stars. There is some coffee (for Kevin) and tea (for Lindsey) to signify the morning and night. Read Psalm 8:3-5 to Sophia.. “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?…”
We were so amazed at their thoughtfulness and surprised to see another gift included… they had registered a star in Sophia Kyla Dennis’ name! I was moved to tears at their thoughtfulness. They said “We pray that this will be a continual reminder as you gaze into the starry night that just as our Father knows all the stars in heaven by name, He watches over and cares for you and holds Sophia safely in His hands.”
So.. here’s to celebrating 23 weeks with our precious Sophia in STAR like fashion!
