Sophie’s 33rd week was filled with lots of love from her family and friends (every week seems to be like that but this week especially :)! That Thursday, my mother-in-law let us know that there was a special package that would arrive for us. Much to our surprise as we opened it we discovered a beautiful quilt that had been put together by over many of our friends and family for Sophie. I wish you could see it in person, because it is amazing. Each square has a story behind it, down to even the history of some of the materials that were used on some of the squares, pieces of fabric used from family members baby blankets, bonnets and wedding dresses. Both Kevin and I were filled with emotion as we opened it, and looked at each square. We were amazed at the thoughtfulness, love and time spent on this quilt and overwhelmed with thankfulness! What a way to start off Sophie’s 33rd week! I wish I could share the story behind each square but there are over 20 squares on the quilt! So I’ll give you a taste of what some of them mean!
My mother-in-law and Sophie’s Mammo spear headed this project and did an incredible job putting it together and having the quilt stitched. She told us that after she had gotten all of the quilt patches and took it to where she had the quilt stitched that usually it takes many weeks to have it made. As she told them our story they rushed her order and put it at the top of the list to make sure we had it asap! How amazing!
“Dear Sophie,
I love you my dear granddaughter. I wanted you to know why I made a crown on your special quilt! Whenever I think of you I picture you as my little princess granddaughter, all sparkly and full of smiles – because you are a child of the King of Kings! He is a very loving and good King to have made you. The Bible tells me (Isaiah 62:2) that you will be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord will decide and you will be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem! Those are big words and ideas, but one day you will understand them. Because when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory (I Peter 5:4). This is like a victory wreath- you will always be a victorious, reigning princess with Jesus! So- a crown is very fitting for my quilt square isn’t it? I long to meet you Sophie sweet – and it won’t be long now. I hope you won’t be shy for your Nini – we will have a special princess moment together for you see – I am a princess too and so is your mommy! Until then, rest safe and snug in your mommy’s tummy and know I love you with all my heart.
Love, your Nini”
“The pieced heart includes fabric used in Lindsey’s wedding veil and their wedding decorations, fabric from my (Mammo’s) wedding dress, cloth from Kevin’s well worn baby blanket and lastly embroidered pink flowers from my baby bib. They were embroidered about 1946 by either my Grandmother Pearl O’Reilly or my Aunt Joie Walters Claxton. Like all the other squares, it was created with much love but also through some tears as well. It is embroidered: Heart U Mammo and Poppop Dennis”
Many thanks to all of our family and friends who took the time to create a piece of this quilt. Each piece has ministered to our hearts in such sweet ways and we are so so amazed at the love poured out to Sophie and us through this quilt!
Later that day our friend, Holly came by to give us a sweet gift to help us celebrate Sophie’s 33rd week! I loved the note she wrote to us and the ways she has helped us create memories with Sophie that to be honest I hadn’t thought about but am so excited to make! (I know… true confessions, we’re at 36 weeks and we haven’t done her 33rd week celebration yet… but now that we have some more space in our lives we’re excited to make this memory!)
34 Weeks…. Fourth of July!!!
Our staff team showed up at our door the morning of July 4th complete with supplies to help us create some great Fourth of July memories with Sophie and friends (including supplies for Sophie’s first water balloon fight!)
I know I write this everytime but we are seriously so amazed and thankful for all the ways that our family and friends help us celebrate Sophie’s life each week and celebrate with us! Sophie’s baby book is going to be massive!! 🙂
