“… then Christ will make his home in our hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.” – Ephesians 3:17
This was the verse written on a card from our friends Rebecca and Shereena as they helped us celebrate Sophie’s 25th week and the roots we have in Jesus by planting a beautiful Bougainvillea Vine. We celebrated earlier this week with them as we planted Sophie’s vine at our church and had our first picnic with Sophie. Not only is this vine beautiful, but it is very strong and can withstand floods and high winds. My prayer is that as a family the Lord would continue to allow us to flourish and bloom in the midst of the storms that come, that our roots would be so deep in Christ that the storms of this life would not take us out but would only make the beauty of Christ more full. This vine is a beautiful picture of that to me and one that we’ll get to be reminded of every time we see it!
This morning our friend Deanna showed up with a fun surprise for Sophie’s 26th week birthday from several friends from church. Their note to us cracked me up so I thought I’d share:
“Tea parties, star gazing, and strutting around with Disney princesses can be hard work! We think Sophia needs to ring in her 26th week RELAXING! So kick off your shoes, take a load off, and ENJOY!” – Mac, Elyse, Deanna, Jeff & James
They filled a basket full of things to help us relax, including gift certificates for Kevin, Sophie and I to all get massages… we love the creativity of our friends and as Kevin and I are preparing to begin to lead our Summer Project in a couple of weeks, this is an especially timely gift 🙂
And to top it off, a sweet group of my closest friends from college, the RBH ladies (which stands for Red Brick Hotties for those curious… a fitting name I think) sent me my first Mother’s Day gift today.
I probably write this every time I write about the ways our friends our helping us celebrate Sophie, but words do not do justice to our thankfulness for the ways the Lord is using the body of Christ to not only help us celebrate our little daughters life, but to also bring so much joy and celebration in a season where sadness can feel overwhelming at times. We love that there is a community of people celebrating Sophie with us, that we don’t have to walk this path alone and that we are surrounded by God’s love in such incredibly tangible ways! Here’s to our roots growing deeper still!
