What better way to celebrate 22 weeks than with an ice cream cake and playing Taylor Swifts “22” song! Yes, I played the song with my phone up to my belly to make sure our sweet little girl could hear!
(We had an impromptu name reveal with a few friends, best expressions of excitement ever!)
Yesterday we celebrated 22 weeks with our precious daughter, Sophia Kyla Dennis!
My mom would always make us ice cream cakes for our birthday and they were my favorite, so I thought I’d make my first birthday cake for our daughter… filled with my favorite ice cream, Graeters Black Raspberry Chip. Only the best for our litte girl!
First bite of Sophie’s bday cake!
Probably Kevin asking Sophie what she thinks of the cake 🙂
Kevin’s parents sent us 22 beautiful flowers for their granddaughter, Sophie and a friend from church, Sarah, brought over a surprise for all 3 of us.. a tea party set, complete with a boa and top hat for Kevin and I to wear 🙂
So what does her name mean?
Sophia is Greek for “wisdom”. I had been drawn to this name way before we found out about our daughters condition thinking that the Lord is His wisdom allowed us to get pregnant when we did and bless us with this child. This name has taken on much deeper meaning as we walk through this new journey with our daughter. God’s wisdom is not of this world, and we recognize that there is much we can not understand about this journey that we walk apart from God and even then we will not understand completely this side of Heaven why He has chosen this story for our daughter. But we know He is WISE in ALL His ways and His wisdom exceeds our human understanding, always. We want to keep this at the forefront of our story with Sophie, recognizing it was in God’s wisdom that He has blessed us with her and in His wisdom He has allowed us to walk this path. We pray our lives as we walk this path and her life will reflect a wisdom that is not of this world. Rooted not in our circumstances but in God’s perspective that exceeds our own.
Her middle name, Kyla, is Gaelic (Irish) and means “beautiful”. It is also Hebrew for “victorious”. We love that is it means “beautiful” because before we have even seen our daughter we know that she is beautiful in every sense. I also have been thinking about how the Lord creates great beauty out of even the darkest times and pray that people would see and know the beauty of our daughters life. Kevin’s family is very Irish (so much so that we even had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at an Irish pub, complete with Irish dancers 🙂 ) so we wanted her name to reflect a piece of her heritage! The fact that it also means “victorious” in Hebrew is a reminder that there will be victory for Sophie whether in this life or with Jesus. Jesus has victory over death and we want the world to know that her life points to a greater victory that is to come when ALL things are made new and made right.
So to close off this post with some fun… here’s a link to Taylor Swift’s “22” song… enjoy and thanks for continuing to celebrate our sweet Sophie’s life with us!!!
